Having been part of Cameroon's 2000 African Nations Cup success, Joseph-Desire joined Middlesbrough for £3million in July 2000.
Born in France, he had played for his home town club, Lyon, before signing for Lens in 1999.
His speed and control made him the leading striker at Lens as they enjoyed unprecedented success.
Unfortunately, his outstanding form did not transfer to England and he was allowed to return to France on loan to Metz in December 2001.
Following Metz's subsequent relegation from La Championnat, Joseph-Desire returned to the Riverside for the 2002-03 season.
