John Askey

Macclesfield Town's longest serving and most respected player, with over 600 appearances, John initially played on the right wing last season, which restricted his goalscoring opportunities, but then mid-way through the campaign he moved up to the forward line often appearing as the sole striker. While his pace may not be what it was he is still a very skillful player who holds the ball up well and makes intelligent use of possession. He was appointed reserve-team manager in January 2001 and having completed the UEFA B coaching certificate will move up to a full-time coaching role with Macclesfield in the 2001-2002 season as well as remaining a member of the first team squad on non-contract forms.
