Unable to get in the team at Sunderland, Andy spent two months on loan at Second Division Wigan Athletic as cover for the injured Roy Carroll.
Mostly featuring on the subs' bench as deputy to Derek Stillie, he made two first-team appearances in the LDV Vans Trophy matches.
In March 2001, he joined Barnsley on a free transfer as back-up to Kevin Miller after Dave Watson announced his retirement.
Although he made a number of appearances as an unused substitute, he failed to make it off the bench but nevertheless did enough to impress manager Nigel Spackman and he signed a two-year contract for the Tykes in the summer.
Andy joined Coventry City in August 2004 with a monthly contract before moving on to Colchester United in October 2004 on a similar basis.
He then joined Bury before moving on to Torquay United in March 2005 with a contract to June 2006.
Andy's contract at Exeter City was extended to June 2009 in May 2008.
