Asher began the 2000-01 campaign as a regular in the Mansfield Town side but then suffered a loss of form and dropped back to the reserves.
He gradually regained his confidence going on to captain the Stags' second string and eventually earned a recall to the senior team in the New Year.
A versatile defender who can play at right back or centre half, he is cool under pressure and has good distribution.
