The Polish-born striker is a product of FC Koln and helped them regain Bundesliga status after being relegated in 2004.
Partnered up front by fellow Pole Miroslav Klose, Lukas scored Germany's third goal in a 3-0 win against Ecuador in Berlin in their third group game at the 2006 World Cup finals.
He then scored both goals in the first 12 minutes as Germany beat Sweden 2-0 in the Round of 16 game.
Lukas was included in Germany's 2014 World Cup squad.
