Comments:

This result confirmed Germany as winners of Group A. They have now finished top of their group in each of their last five World Cup finals. Germany have also maintained their record of progressing to the second phase of the finals. It is the third time Germany have won all three of their World Cup group games. They also did it in 1970 and 1974. With four goals in the tournament, Miroslav Klose becomes the new leading scorer at the 2006 World Cup finals.
