Comments:

This result meant that Portugal finished as winners of Group D. It's the first time Portugal have won all three of their World Cup finals group games since 1966 - the last time they reached the knockout stages. After waiting forty years for a penalty in a World Cup finals game, Portugal have now been awarded a penalty in consecutive games.

Comments:

This result meant that Mexico finished as runners-up of Group D. Omar Bravo missed a 57th minute penalty. This was Mexico first defeat in their last 11 group games at World Cup finals. Their last group loss was against Norway in Washington in 1994.
