This was the second league game that the Magpies had played in June following a 4-2 defeat at Newport County in League Division Two on 7 June 1947. United had now kept clean sheets in six of their last seven home games against newly promoted teams in the Premier League. They had now kept clean sheets in four consecutive home games in the Premier League for the first time since April 2012.

The Blades conceded three or more goals in an away game for the first time since their visit to Aston Villa in the League Championship on 8 February 2019 (a 3-3 draw). This was their biggest defeat since a 3-0 loss at Middlesbrough in the League Championship on 7 August 2018. United had now lost three of their last six away games in the Premier League (won one).
