Comments:

Manchester United had now scored the first goal of a Premier League season for the third time (also Ruud van Nistelrooy versus Everton in 2005 and an own goal by Kyle Walker versus Tottenham Hotspur in 2015). Paul Pogba's third minute goal became United's fastest goal scored in a Premier League season. The previous quickest was scored by Dwight Yorke after seven minutes of their opener against Everton in 1999. Newly appointed captain Pogba had now scored in 11 games in the Premier League and been on the winning side in all of them - a joint competition record with Liverpool's Ryan Babel. Luke Shaw's goal was the first goal of his senior career in his 141st appearance (134 for clubs and seven for England).

Comments:

Leicester City had now conceded the first goal in each of the last three Premier League seasons (also versus Hull City in 2016 and Arsenal in 2017). The Foxes remained without a win in their last 16 away games on the opening day of the season in the top division (lost eight) since a 3-2 win at Aston Villa in 1933. Jamie Vardy scored in the second minute of added time at the end of the game. It was his 63rd goal in the Premier League and his first as a substitute.
