The Reds had now scored a 90th minute winning goal in 34 games in the Premier League; at least nine more than any other team. They had now won 11 consecutive home games in the top division for the first time since November 1985 (13 games). Sadio Mané had now scored 50 goals in 100 appearances in the Premier League for the Reds. He became the 39th player to score 50 league goals for the Anfield club.

League position: 3rd Since the start of previous season, Leicester City had now conceded four 90th minute winning goals in the Premier League; at least two more than any other team. The Foxes failed in their attempt to win more than four of their opening eight games of a top division season for the second time; previously in 1930-31 in League Division One. This was boss Brendan Rodgers' first return to Anfield since he was sacked as manager of Liverpool on 4 October 2015.
