In ending a run of 16 games without a goal for the Foxes in all competitions since 10 September 2016, Jamie Vardy scored his first hat-trick since playing for Fleetwood Town against Ebbsfleet United in the Conference on 21 February 2012. In their 200th home game in the competition, it was City's fourth hat-trick in the Premier League (also Ian Marshall versus on 22 February 1997, Stan Collymore versus Sunderland on 5 March 2000 and Riyad Mahrez versus Swansea City on 5 December 2015). Shinji Okazaki was booked in the third minute of added time in the second half. Matt James replaced Riyad Mahrez in the second minute of added time in the second half.

This was the first time that City had conceded three goals in the first 20 minutes of a Premier League game since 22 February 2003 in a 1-5 defeat by Arsenal at Maine Road (0-4 after 18 minutes).
