League position: 10th This was Everton’s first defeat in seven Premier League matches but they had yet to win a league game against a team in the top half of the table in this season. Romelu Lukaku was the first Everton player to score in eight successive matches in all competitions since Dave Hickson between January and March 1954. He was alo the first Toffee to score in seven consecutive league games since Bob Latchford from November to December in 1975 [Steve Johnson, Everton Complete Record] Gareth Barry made his 100th competitive appearance for Everton It was the third team he had played at least 100 games in all competitions for (also Manchester City and Aston Villa). Leighton Baines made his 250th Premier League start for Everton, so becoming the fourth player to do so after Tim Howard, Leon Osman and David Unsworth. This was Seamus Coleman's 200th appearance for Everton.

League position: 1st This result meant that Leicester City would be top of the Premier League table on Christmas Day. The previous Christmas Day, they were bottom of the table with a five point deficit to safety. The Foxes became only the third team to be bottom of the top division on Christmas Day a year before being top on a 25 December (also Burnley, 1825-1926 and Norwich City 1987 - 1988). [Infostrada] Five of the last six teams who were top of the Premier League on Christmas Day went on to win the title. Liverpool were the exception in 2013-14. City had now not lost an away game since a 4-3 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on 21 March 2015 (won seven). The Foxes now had 38 points from their 17 games in 2015-16. It took them until the 37th game to reach 38 points in the previous season.
