USA national football team (USMNT)

Despite football traditionally suffering from a lack of popularity in the United States, in recent years it has been a sport on the rise. In terms of participation it is now one of the country's leading sports.

The national football team has developed into a regular competitor at World Cup finals. Having hosted the World Cup in 1994, the national team has qualified for every competition since.

At the first World Cup ever in 1930, the Americans performed very strongly as they reached the semi finals. Perhaps their most famous victory came in 1950 when they pulled off an upset in beating England 1 - 0.

Since the first CONCACAF Gold cup in 1991, USA have hosted or co-hosted each instalment of the competition. They are the second most successful team in the tournament's history with four titles.
