Reid was such a late call-up to Ireland's 2002 World Cup squad that he was literally on his way to the airport bound for a holiday in Barbados when he received the message to divert to the Far East to replace the injured Mark Kennedy.
A former England Under-16 international, he qualifies for the Republic as his late father was born in Galway.
Progressing through Millwall's youth ranks, he signed his first pro contract in 1998 and made over 150 senior appearances for the Lions.
He has made a terrific contribution to the recent success at the New Den with promotion from Division Two followed by them reaching the First Division Play-Offs.
After three Under-21 outings, he made his full international debut at the beginning of the 2001-02 season and scored against Russia and Nigeria in his first five games.
Reid is a tall winger who is strong in the challenge and can also play at full back if required.
He came on in both of Ireland's opening games in the 2002 finals against Cameroon and Germany, and joined Blackburn Rovers in July 2003 on a four-year contract for a reported £2.5million fee.
His Rovers contract was extended to June 2010 in June 2006.
After a loan spell, Reid joined West Bromwich Albion in July 2010 with a two-year contract that was extended to June 2013 in May 2012 and to June 2014 in June 2013.
He joined Burnley in July 2014 with a one-year contract.
