A near ever-present for Tranmere in 2000-01 Steve again proved to be a calm and reliable figure in defence. Very solid and with a no-nonsense approach he is particularly effective in the air, both at the back and when coming up to help out in attack. His high point of the season was undoubtedly the FA Cup victory over Everton when he contributed two stunning headers to Rovers' 3-0 victory. Despite the campaign ending in relegation he received some consolation when he was voted as the 'Young Supporters' Player of the Year' for 2000-01.
Steve was transfer-listed by Sheffield United in July 2003 prior to joining Huddersfield Town on a two-year contract.
