Gaughan started 2000-01 as a regular in the Halifax Town line-up and scored in the 2-1 defeat at Kidderminster Harriers in August. However he then spent three months on loan at Cork City returning to the The Shay in February when he made a couple of appearances before being sidelined by an injury. He is an experienced central midfield player with a high work rate and good distribution.
