Having previously made just a handful of appearances from the subs' bench, Rob made excellent progress at Crewe Alexandra in 2000-01 and featured in most of the club's First Division games.

His first goal of the season came against Barnsley towards the end of September and he followed this up with doubles at Tranmere Rovers and Grimsby Town, eventually going on to finish as the Railwaymen's leading scorer with 11 goals.

As a very promising young striker, he used his height to good effect and established an excellent partnership up front with Dean Ashton.

Rob joined West Bromwich Albion for £750,000 in July 2003 in a three-year deal.

After a loan spell, Rob joined Leeds United in May 2005 with a contract to June 2008.

In July 2006, he joined Sheffield United in a three-year deal.

Rob joined Derby County in July 2008 with a three-year contract.

He joined Queens Park Rangers in August 2010 with a three-year contract.
