Having lost the Nottingham Forest captain's armband to Chris Bart-Williams at the start of 2000-01, Riccy went on to retain his first-team place for most of the campaign.
However manager David Platt never seemed sure of his best position and he was tried at full back, in the centre of the defence, and in central midfield before eventually settling on the right-hand side of midfield.
A versatile player with good skills on the ball, the constant changing of roles seemed to affect his confidence somewhat.
Riccy retired in December 2009 due to a groin injury.
