Edwards shared goalkeeping duties for Shrewsbury with Ian Dunbavin in 2000-01 and when selected he produced some very sound performances never letting the team down. His consistency was recognised when he was voted as the supporters' 'Player of the Year' but after nine years and more than 300 appearances for the Gay Meadow club he was released at the end of the campaign. He is an experienced 'keeper who handles the ball and is strong when defending against close range shots.
