Martyn's first international appearance dates back to a 1992 friendly against the CIS in Moscow and he remained a worthy contender to David Seaman's goalkeeping crown.
He notably made a telling contribution to England's 2002 World Cup qualification with crucial saves in the final game against Greece.
Agile, athletic and a fine shot stopper, he became Britain's first £1million keeper when he moved from Bristol Rovers to Crystal Palace in 1989. The fee rose to £2.25million when he joined Leeds United.
Martyn had his contract at Everton extended to June 2006 in January 2005.
