Weaver joined Manchester City in May 1997 from Mansfield Town for a bargain £200,000.
He came to prominence in his first full season during the promotion winning 1998-99 season, culminating in a match winning performance at Wembley during the Play-Off Final.
Again a revelation in goal helping City gain a second successive promotion and voted Nationwide Goalkeeper of the Year for 1999-00.
A regular between the sticks for England Under-21s and one of the few successes during the European Under-21 Championships.
He had played in all four English divisions in just four seasons.
Weaver joined Charlton Athletic in July 2007 with a two-year contract.
He joined Burnley in January 2010 with a contract to June 2010.
Weaver joined Sheffield Wednesday in August 2010 with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2013 in April 2011.
