Michael Jackson

Jackson began his career at Crewe Alexandra signing professional in July 1992.

He could not break into the first team and he joined Bury on a free transfer in August 1993.

He played over 100 games for Bury before he moved to Preston North End in March 1997 for £125,000.

He established himself at the heart of the defence, winning a Division Two championship medal in 1997, and scoring on his 150th league appearance in November 1997 against Bristol Rovers.

He was outstanding in 1998-99 and was rewarded with a new deal in the summer of 1999 and was an important member of the side that regained a place in the First Division when the team won promotion at the end of the 1999-2000 season.

He had scored in his 150th game for the club at Reading and made the PFA Division Two team for that season.

Suspended for the start of the 2000-01 season, he was unable to reclaim a regular starting place until November when Colin Murdoch was suspended.

However, once back, he retained his place going on to make his 150th league appearance for North End during the season.

Having returned to his best form and adapted to First Division football, a back injury then led to his season ending prematurely.

He missed the play-off defeat by Birmingham City but did return for the start of the 2001-02 season.

He was injured in the match against Portsmouth in October and only returned to first team action towards the end of the season.

Jackson joined Tranmere Rovers in July 2004 on a two-year contract.

He then joined Blackpool with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2008 in June 2007.

Jackson joined Shrewsbury Town in July 2008 with a two-year contract before announcing his retirement in January 2010 due to a knee injury.
