Another product of the successful Wimbledon academy, Lionel was a surprise starter in the home match with Watford in August 2000. He made an impressive debut and this was followed up by a handful of appearances from the subs' bench but he then had the misfortune to fracture an ankle playing for the Under-19s against Birmingham City in October and it was not until the final two games of the season that he made a return to the Dons' first team.

A speedy left winger, he concluded a very promising game by netting a hat-trick for the reserves.

He was capped by England Under-17s in the end-of-season game against Italy.
