Having been introduced to the West Bromwich Albion first team in the 1999- 2000 campaign, James had an excellent season in 2000-01 when he was as a regular in the line-up from August until sidelined by an injury in February.
Although he occasionally filled in at right back, he produced his best displays playing as a central defender alongside Tony Butler.
Cool under pressure and with a confident approach, he showed excellent distribution.
James, who is the twin brother of Albion's Adam Chambers, was made available for transfer by the Baggies in March 2004.
He joined Watford in September 2004 with a three-year contract.
James joined Leicester City in July 2007 with a three-year contract.
He joined Doncaster Rovers in August 2008 in a three-year deal that was extended to June 2012 in August 2011.
James teamed-up with his twin brother Adam again at Walsall in August 2012 where his contract was extended to June 2014 in June 2013 and to June 2015 in June 2014.
