As a young Rotherham United defender, David stepped up to make his first appearance in the starting line-up in 2000-01 and grabbed the opportunity with both hands as he went on to become a regular in the Millers first team.
Big and strong, he is also very effective in the opposing penalty area as he demonstrated by scoring some useful goals.
He was rewarded for his progress by being offered an extended contract towards the end of the campaign.
David joined Mansfield Town in August 2003 on a short-term contract that was extended to June 2005 in July 2004.
His contract at Morecambe was extended to June 2010 in May 2009.
He joined Crewe Alexandra in July 2010 with a two-year contract.
David joined Port Vale in July 2012 with a one-year contract before joining Northampton Town the following month in a two-year deal.
