With a goal only four minutes in to his home debut, Carl Cort quickly became a favourite at Newcastle United following his £7million move from Wimbledon.
Unfortunately, injury was to deny him a lasting influence on Tyneside.
He also injured a hamstring in the same match and corrective surgery was required.
Returning to the team again he suffered further hamstring problems unconnected with the first injury and was sidelined for six months.
He eventually re-emerged in the home game against Middlesbrough in March, when he was again on target with a terrific drive from the edge of the penalty area, and he went on to finish as the club's joint-top scorer, albeit with just six goals.
Tall and strong with a good turn of speed, he is an awkward opponent to deal with in the box, but he also works hard in all areas of the pitch for the sake of his team.
Carl joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2004 with a contract to June 2007.
He joined Leicester City in July 2007 with a two-year contract that was cancelled in January 2008.
Carl joined Norwich City in December 2008 with a contract to June 2009.
He joined Brentford in August 2009 with a five-month contract that was extended to June 2010 in January 2010 and to June 2011 in June 2010 before it was cancelled in January 2011.
