League position: 11th Unused substitutes: Ben Williams, Ben Rix, Luke Varney, Andy White and Paul Bignot Many sources originally credited Crewe Alexandra's goal to Dean Ashton. However, the match report in the local Sentinal newspaper confirmed that it was an own goal by Wolves' Joleon Lescott, as follows: "At Molineux on Saturday, only the hard-hearted would have denied the striker the right to claim a set-piece goal which ultimately came so close to earning Crewe a shock win. But the Christmas spirit hadn't infected referee Brian Curson, who confirmed afterwards he was marking down the first-half strike to the unfortunate Joleon Lescott after the centre-half got the final touch." It was also later stated as an own goal on Alex's official web site and by video evidence.
