Howard, who is a former England youth international, joined Swindon Town in July 2003 on a one-year contract.
This was extended to June 2005 in July 2004.
Howard's contract at Barnsley was extended to June 2009 in May 2007.
He joined Reading in September 2009 with a three-year contract.
Howard joined Bristol City in February 2013 with a contract to June 2013.
He joined Birmingham City in January 2014 with a contract to June 2014.
Howard joined Oxford United in September 2014 with a contract to January 2015.
