Beni joined Bradford City on a four-year contract in the close season of 2000-2001and was an ever-present in the Bantams' team until he was dropped by boss Jim Jeffries in mid-January and placed on the transfer list.

He turned down a proposed move to Middlesbrough and announced his intention of fighting to win back his place in the line-up.

He eventually returned after missing just five games but proved unable to prevent the club slipping out of the Premiership.

An immense talent, he is one of the most exciting players to appear at Valley Parade in City's recent history and his skills were much appreciated by the club's supporters.

After ten matches in Division One Bradford City to ease their wage bill loaned him to Derby County In October 2001.

Derby did not sign him on a permanent deal and he returned to Bradford after his loan expired.

After one more appearance for Bradford City, he joined Middlesbrough on loan after they failed to attract Dwight Yorke to the club.

He stayed until the end of the season but Middlesbrough did not make the deal a permanent one and he returned to Bradford City.

He like most of the other players were released from their contracts when the club was placed into administration in the summer of 2002, after the TV deal had collapsed.

He was owed over £3million in back wages by the club and his acceptance of a lower amount of compensation allowed Bradford City to survive.

He had been training with Italian club Como and joined them in the summer of 2002 on a two year contract.
