Having made just a handful of appearances in the previous two seasons, Barry became a first-team regular for Coventry City during the 2000-01 campaign.
He made a couple of early-season appearances in midfield but was then handed the troublesome left-back role at the beginning of December and performed with great aplomb.
Despite being right-footed, he adapted well to the role and on Marcus Hall's return he switched to right back displacing the incumbent, Marc Edworthy.
While not the fastest full back in the Premiership, he makes up for a certain lack of speed with good positional sense and strong passing skills, not to mention his crossing which created Lee Carsley's headed goal at Leicester City.
He gained three caps for the Republic of Ireland during the summer of 2000 and his regular place in the Coventry side won him a recall to the squad in April.
Barry was made available for transfer by Coventry City in April 2003.
After a loan spell, he joined Oxford United in July 2004 on a two-year contract.
