League position: 18th West Ham United failed in their attempt to win their first two home games of a Premier League season for the first time since 2012-13. Javier Hernandez scored for the first time in his nine appearances against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. Cheikhou Kouyaté scored on his 100th appearance in the Premier League. West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic said: “For me the first-half was nowhere near 2-0 for them. Up until the first goal it was at least a very even game. We were defending really well against them we didn’t give them time in those pockets. Four or five times we were in really promising situations but we didn’t capitalise on that. As soon as you make one mistake they take it and they make a brilliant cross and brilliant finishing. The only period of the game that I am disappointed is after the first goal. For those five minutes we were in shock and then they scored another one.”

League position: 4th Tottenham Hotspur had now won their opening three away games in a league season for the first time since 1991-92. Christian Eriksen now became the top-scoring Dane in the Premier League and level with Les Ferdinand as Spurs' joint tenth leading scorer in the competition's history (33 goals) . Serge Aurier became the first Tottenham player to be sent-off in the Premier League since Vlad Chiriches against Stoke City on 9 May 2015. Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino said: "Not only in England but in the world; for me Harry Kane is the best striker in the world. I'm in love with him as the fans are. He is great, he is fantastic, it is difficult to find different words. He is a great striker, his mentality is fantastic, he is so humble. I think, yes, I am in love with him. You can feel that."
