Comments:

West Bromwich Albion had now won consecutive opening league games for the first time since 1992. Ahmed Hegazy was the first player to score on his Premier League debut for the Baggies since Thievy Bifouma in a 3-1 defeat at Crystal Palace on 8 February 2014. Substitute Rekeem Harper became the second player born in this century (8 March 2000) to play in the Premier League after Angel Gomes for Manchester United on the final day of the previous season. West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis said: "How we never scored more than one, I just don't know. We had the most shots on goal and the most corners but we need to get some players in, and quickly. They have to be players that will improve us and we have to work hard over the next two weeks."

Comments:

AFC Bournemouth had now lost all three of their opening games in the Premier League (also 1-0 versus Aston Villa in 2015 and 3-1 versus Manchester United in 2016). Their ninth-place finish in the previous season's Premier League was the highest in the Cherries' 118-year history. They failed to score for only the second time in their last nine Premier League games. AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said: "The build-up to the goal was very disappointing. We gave away a needless free-kick, and against West Brom that is a dangerous thing. We have had enough football in pre-season to be ready, and I thought we were ready. The pitch was slow, and that is not an excuse."
