Comments:

League position: 11th With a victory in this game, Watford would have been the leaders of the top division for the first time since September 1982 and for only the second time in their history. This was the Hornets' biggest home defeat since a 1-7 loss to Swindon Town in Division Three (South) on 6 September 1951. They failed in their attempt to remain unbeaten after the first five games of a league season for the first time since 2000-01 in League Division 1. Watford manager Marco Silva said: “Of course it is not a good afternoon for us but it is important we understand things in the first-half. First, City deserved the three points and started very strong in the first-half but the first goal was offside. The second goal we made a big mistake and the third goal is offside. This is true."

League position: 1st This was Manchester City's biggest away win in the top division since a 7-1 victory at Derby County in League Division One on 29 January 1938. City became only the fourth team in the history of the top division to win by five or goals in consecutive away games against the same opposition (also won 5-0 at Watford in May 2017). They had now scored at least four goals in three consecutive competitive games for the first time since December 1963. Sergio Agüero scored his sixth hat-trick in the Premier League; only Alan Shearer (11), Robbie Fowler (nine), Michael Owen and Thierry Henry (eight) had now scored more. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said: "Sergio now needs three goals to beat the club record. It will be soon. Hopefully we can make a good celebration because he's a legend, a part of the history of the club. That's good for him. He's a guy that I encourage to play, not just to score a goal. Sergio showed again what a good guy he is. I like penalties to be taken by the penalty taker, but I understand that Raheem created the penalty and it was with my blessing that Sergio gave it to him when it is already 0-5."
