Comments:

Ukraine's only previous appearance in the quarter-finals of a major tournament was a 3-0 defeat by Italy at the FIFA World Cup finals in 2006. This result equalled Ukraine's heaviest defeat at a major tournament; also versus Spain in their opening game at the FIFA World Cup finals in 2006. They had now failed to score in two of their 11 games in 2021.

Comments:

England had now qualified for the semi-finals at consecutive major tournaments for the first time since 1968 under Sir Alf Ramsey. Only Gary Lineker (ten) had now scored more goals at major tournaments for the Three Lions than Harry Kane (nine). They became the first team to keep clean sheets in each of their first five games at a UEFA European Championship finals.
