League position: 8th Swansea City had now yet to beat Everton at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League after five attempts (lost three). The Swans failed to score in a home game for the first time since 16 March 2015 when Liverpool won 1-0. Jack Cork was booked in the first minute of added time in the first half.

League position: 6th Everton had now kept three successive clean sheets away from home in the Premier League for the first time since December 2013. Roberto Martinez, the Swans' manager from February 2007 to June 2009 and player between January 2003 and May 2006, has been at the helm for two wins and three draws in his five Premier League matches as Everton manager against City. Kevin Mirallas replaced Ross Barkley in the second minute of added time in the second half. Kevin Mirallas was sent-off in the fourth minute of added time in the at the end of the game, two minutes and 16 seconds after coming on as a substitute. He became the first substitute to be sent-off in the Premier League in the 2015-16 season.
