This was the first meeting since AFC Bournemouth won 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium on 5 April 2008 in League One. At the end of the 2007-08 campaign, the Swans were promoted and the Cherries relegated. As a mark of respect for the victims of the terrorist attacks on Paris the previous weekend, La Marseillaise, the French national anthem, was played before the start of this match.
