The Dutchman's first Premier League game in charge was the meeting between these two sides on 21 March 2015 which the Hammers won (1-0). The Black Cats took 16 points from his 18 league games in charge. Sunderland had now failed to win any of their last 11 Premier League games (lost six); the longest current run in the division.
