Comments:

Final league position 2017-18: 17th Southampton would have been relegated had they lost this game and Swansea City had won at home against relegated Stoke City, plus a ten-goal swing in the Swans favour (they lost 2-1). As he was in charge at Stoke City earlier in 2017-18, manager Mark Hughes (a former Manchester City boss) avoided being associated with two relegated teams in the same season. Only West Bromwich Albion (18) took fewer points from their home games than the Saints (19) in this Premier League season. Following a run of four consecutive defeats, this was their first loss in their last five games in the Premier League (won two).

Final league position 2017-18: 1st Based on three points for a win, Manchester City became the first team to reach 100 points in a top division season with this win. This was City's 32nd win in this Premier League season so breaking Tottenham Hotspur's record for the most wins in a top division season (31 in 1960-61). The Citizens also set a new top division record for the biggest winning margin by the champions (19 points). The previous record was 18 points by Manchester United (91) ahead of Arsenal (73) in 1999-2000. They also established the following new Premier League records: Most goals scored (106) - previously 103 by Chelsea in 2009-10. Most away wins (16) - previously 15 by Chelsea in 2004-05. Biggest goal difference (+79) - previously +71 by Chelsea in 2009-10. City failed in their attempt to equal their club record of 108 goals scored in a league season (1926-27 in League Division Two and 2001-02 in League Division 1). Whilst an unused sub, Ederson was shown a yellow card in the fourth minute of added time at the end of the game for excessive goal celebration.
