Comments:

League position: 9th Southampton had now won only two of their last eight home games in the Premier League home games (lost four). The Saints had now scored 17 goals in their home games so far in this Premier League season; only Sunderland (16) and Middlesbrough (13) in the bottom two positions had scored fewer. This was their 800th home game in the top division (won 371, lost 202). Southampton boss Claude Puel: "I don't know if we deserved to win because there wasn't enough from us. It was poor play and we have to accept this, we have to do better. It was not enough against an organised, strong defensive unit. The quality was not enough and I agree with the fans."

League position: 17th Hull City had now created a new record of conceding 12 penalties in a Premier League season. Eldin Jakupović saved Dušan Tadić’s 90th minute spot-kick. It was his second penalty save of the season in the Premier League; no other goalkeeper had saved more. The Tigers had lost their five preceding away games in the Premier League and conceded 15 goals. City had now kept clean sheets in consecutive games for the second time in this Premier League season. Andrea Ranocchia was booked in the second minute of added time in the second-half. Hull City manager Marco Silva said: "It's not quite like a victory, but it's still very important. If we had lost this game it really wouldn't have been good. I want this bravery in our team, but it's not easy, the position where we are in the table. The penalty was a really important moment for us, a big save."
