Comments:

Serbia & Montenegro are taking part in their tenth World Cup although the previous nine were as Yugoslavia. Eight took place before various parts of the country gained independence. Montenegro declared independence from Serbia last month, and this is the last FIFA or UEFA tournament where they will compete as a unified nation. There are no Montenegro-born players in 2006 World Cup squad. This was Serbia & Montenegro's first defeat in 14 competitive matches. They conceded just one goal in qualification - the fewest amongst the 32 qualifiers. Serbia & Montenegro's starting line-up was older than any of Yugoslavia's starting 11's at a World Cup.

Comments:

Holland have now avoided defeat in their last six opening matches at World Cups finals. Holland are now unbeaten in 13 competitive matches and have kept clean sheets in the last ten. Following Argentina's Hernan Crespo and Ivory Coast's Didier Drogba, Arjen Robben becomes the third Chelsea player to score in the opening two Group C matches.
