Comments:

League position: 5th Manchester City failed to win their opening home game of a Premier League season for the first time since 2006-07. On his home debut for City and in his 200th appearance in the Premier League, Kyle Walker was sent-off for the first time in his senior career. Sergio Agüero had now failed to score in his last seven Premier League appearances against Everton; his longest such run against any opponent in the division. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said: "We are here for the results but, in the end, you have to analyse the performance. It is one of the proudest days of my life seeing how we have done, ten against 11, against Everton, a Europa League team with top quality players. It was not easy but we tried and we missed some chances, even against 11 men."

League position: 8th With his goal in this game, Wayne Rooney became the second player to score 200 goals in the Premier League after Alan Shearer (260). He became 27th in the all-time list of goalscorers in England's top division, and tenth in the post-war era. Everton started a Premier League game with eight English players for the first time since Boxing Day 1997 in a 2-0 defeat at Manchester United. After 441 minutes, the Toffees conceded their first goal of the season in all competitions (excluding Football League Trophy). Everton manager Ronald Koeman said: "I'm disappointed. Maybe you will take the point before the game, but we were 1-0 up at half-time, 11 against ten. But even with one less player on the pitch, City have that great talent. They can make it really difficult. We had problems in keeping the ball and we played the long ball too fast. But I thought we controlled it well. The tactical plan was outstanding in the first-half. We worked really hard for a good result and one point away at City is a good result."
