League position: 1st With his second goal in this game, Sergio Agüero became Manchester City’s all-time leading league goalscorer. Tommy Johnson (1920-30) and Eric Book (1928-39) both scored 158 league goals. With his 15th hat-trick for the Citizens in all competitions, Sergio Agüero had now equalled Alan Shearer's competition record of 11 hat-tricks in the Premier League. Dixie Deans hold the record for the top division with 34 for Everton from October 1925 to November 1936. City had now scored 15 goals in the opening 15 minutes of their games so far in this Premier League season; eight more than any other team. They now had the best home record so far in this Premier League season with 13 wins from 14 games (lost one). City had now scored 33 goals in their last six home games in all competitions. Manchester City became the first team to score more than one goal in 15 consecutive home games in the top division since Tottenham Hotspur in December 1965 in League Division One. Eight of the other current 19 teams in the Premier League had now conceded most recently conceded six or more goals in a league game against City. John Stones made his 100th appearance for City in this game.

League position: 6th This was Chelsea’s heaviest defeat since a 7-0 loss at Nottingham Forest on 20 April 1991 in League Division One. None of the current Premier League teams had gone longer since the last time they had conceded six or more goals in a league game. Crystal Palace were the next longest (7-1 at Huddersfield Town in League Division 1 on 28 August 1999). This was the first time that they had conceded six goals in a Premier League game. It was the fourth time that they had conceded five goals in their 1,026 games in the division (also 5-1 versus Liverpool on 21 September 1996, 5-3 versus Arsenal on 29 October 2011 and 5-3 versus Tottenham Hotspur on 1 January 2015). Prior to this game, Sergio Agüero was the last player to score a hat-trick against Chelsea in the Premier League (16 April 2016 at Stamford Bridge). The Blues had now conceded four or more goals in consecutive away league games for the first time since December 1990 in League Division One (won 6-4 at Derby County then lost 4-1 at Leeds United). This was the first time Chelsea had conceded four or more goals in the first-half of a game in the Premier League since a 4-1 loss at Sunderland on 4 December 1999. The Blues equalled the club record of failing to score in three consecutive away games in the Premier League (also in January 1993 and April 2002). The last time they lost three consecutive away league games and failed to score in all three was in December 1991 in League Division One.
