League position: 1st With 31 points and a +31 goal difference, Manchester City had now made the best-ever start to a Premier League season after 11 games. City's total of 52 goals after the first 17 games of a season in all competitions became a record for a Premier League club (since 1992-93). They had now equalled the club record of nine consecutive league wins within the same season which had stood since February 1947 in League Division Two. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said: "We won in the best way. Sometimes it’s like this. I was told it [the third goal] was offside and I don’t want to win like this, but [last season] Arsenal beat Burnley with a handball in the 96th minute. We want to try to play and we did it really well. It was well deserved. We fought in the bad moments, when we were tired, mentally we were stable. I was pleased with the performance."

League position: 6th Arsenal had now won only one of their 18 away games in the Premier League against the other big six teams since the start of the 2014-15 season (lost ten). 13 goals had now been scored by the Gunners' substitutes in the Premier League since the start of the previous season; as many as any other team. Arsenal had now taken 17 points from their 16 away games in the Premier League in 2017. Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: "I feel the referees don’t work enough. The level drops every season at the moment and, overall, it’s unacceptable. I believe it was no penalty. We know that Raheem Sterling dives well, he does that very well. The third goal was offside. I am very upset because at 2-1 we were in the game."
