Comments:

League position: 10th Craig Shakespeare became the third manager to win his first five Premier League after Carlo Ancelotti (Chelsea) in 2009 and Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) in 2016. The Foxes became the second team in the history of the competition to follow a run of five consecutive defeats in the Premier League by winning the next five in a row (also Tottenham Hotspur in the 2004-05 season). City had now won four consecutive home games in the Premier League for the first time since August 2015. Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare said: "We weren't at our best tonight but the most important thing was the win. We know we can play better than that. We're trying to put as many points on the board as we can."

Comments:

League position: 20th Sunderland now had taken 20 points from their 30 games so far in this Premier League season; all ten teams with this total or fewer in previous seasons had been relegated. The Black Cats had now failed to score in six consecutive games in the top division for the first time since October 1981. They had now failed to score in 15 Premier League games so far this season; more than any other team. Sunderland manager David Moyes said: "I'm really disappointed we didn't get something out of the game. We played really well for 60 minutes. If we'd been in front, nobody could have complained. Small margins are important. It's desperate now. I felt we had to win one of these past two games."
