Kick-off was delayed by 40 minutes to 9.30pmm local after a group of Serbia supporters threw objects on to the pitch and attempted to break down barriers. The game was abandoned after seven minutes due to Serbia supporters throwing flares on to the pitch and into the home supporters' section. The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body subsequently decided to award the match as a 3-0 forfeit win to Italy. Serbia was also ordered to play its next two home games behind closed doors, with a one-match ban deferred for a probationary period of two years.
