Comments:

League position: 18th There was some controversy over the goal as Michael Dawson was off the pitch receiving treatment for a bloody nose as instructed by the referee. Play was allowed to continue and Burnley went on to score from the ensuing corner-kick. The Tigers were still to win a Premier League match in the month of May in four seasons (eight defeats, three draws). It was now likely that they would have to win one of their two remaining games to avoid relegation. They had now won just two of their last ten Premier League games (drawn two and lost five). This was Hull City's 150th game in the Premier League.

League position: 19th Despite this victory, Newcastle United's draw with West Bromwich Albion on the same afternoon confirmed Burnley's relegation to the League Championship. George Boyd, who joined from Hull City [subsequently relegated on the last day of the season] in September, became the fourth player to play for two teams who were relegated in the same Premier League season. Mark Robins (Norwich City and Leicester City) in 1994-95, Steve Kabba (Sheffield United and Watford) in 2006-07 and David Nugent (Portsmouth and Burnley in 2009-10) share the same distinction. The Clarets completed the double over the Tigers this season with two 1-0 wins. They had now won their last five visits to the KC Stadium. Victory stopped Burnley losing five consecutive top-flight matches for the first time since December 1975 and January 1976. Burnley had now scored just two goals in their last ten Premier League matches but they gave them two 1-0 wins. This was only their second away league win in this season, the other was a 2-1 win against Stoke City on 22 November 2014. In their two seasons in the Premier League, they had now won three away games. Two were at Hull City and all three were refereed by Martin Atkinson. Danny Ings’ goal ended the Clarets run of ten hours and 31 minutes without scoring a team goal and also his own personal goal drought of 1,036 minutes. Burnley became the second team to have played in more than one Premier League season and been relegated each time. The first was Watford who had regained a place in the Premier League this season as champions of the League Championship.
