Comments:

Everton had now conceded a total of 37 goals in their opening games of a Premier League season; more than any other team. They had now drawn 2-2 on the opening day of the season for the third campaign in a row. The Toffees had won their previous nine matches against the Hornets in all competitions. Steven Naismith replaced Romelu Lukaku in the first minute of added time in the second half.

Comments:

Watford's last defeat in their opening game of a league season remained as the 2-1 defeat at Everton in 2006. That was the last time they were in the Premier League. Watford fielded a starting XI that contained 11 different nationalities. It was the 58th time this had happened in the history of the Premier League. The Hornets had been relegated in both of their previous Premier League seasons: 1999-2000 and 2006-07.
