League position: 14th In a season when many of their Premier League fixtures have been altered due to their participation in the UEFA Europa League, this was only Everton's second win in their last nine games played on a Sunday. With this win, they avoided a run of five consecutive home draws for the first time in the Premier League. This was only their second win in 13 league games since 15 December 2014 although they had now lost only one of their last 11 Premier League games at Goodison Park. Romelu Lukaku had now scored five goals in his six Premier League appearances against Newcastle United. He had now scored ten of Everton's 19 goals in all competitions in 2015.

League position: 11th Newcastle United had now won only two of the 11 league and cup games since they beat Everton at St James' Park on 28 December 2014. United now had eight fewer points (35) than they did at the same stage last season (29 games). They had now conceded 28 goals in their away games in the Premier League in this season. Only Queens Park Rangers (32) had conceded more.
