UEFA ordered this game to be played behind closed doors following the unrest in the UEFA Euro 2020 Final between England and Italy at Wembley Stadium on 11 July 2021. It was the first time that the FA had received a punishment that resulted in England playing a home fixture behind closed doors. UEFA regulations allowed children to attend such games; "Children under the age of 14 from schools and/or football academies can be invited to the match free of charge." In addition, one adult was allowed to accompany every ten children. This was the fifth time that the Three Lions had played an ‘A’ international match at Molineux; most recently in a 5-2 win against Denmark in a FIFA World Cup qualifier on 5 December 1956. Italy remained unbeaten in competitive fixtures against England since November 1977. The Three Lions had now failed to score in seven of their 15 games in the UEFA Nations League.
