League position: 13th With a victory that confirmed their survival in the Premier League, this was Crystal Palace's joint-biggest winning margin in the competition (also 5-1 versus Newcastle United on 28 November 2015). Palace had lost their three preceding games in the Premier League without scoring. Patrick Van Aanholt's goal was the 1,000th goal scored in the Premier League in the 2016-17 season. Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce said: "It's always a relief. The nervous tension was around the building today. For us to apply ourselves as we did, almost perfectly, was excellent. It's four goals, a clean sheet and we were able to enjoy the last 15 minutes. It was a class performance. We completely nullified Hull's possession."

League position: 18th This was Hull City's 100th defeat in the Premier League and confirmed their relegation to the League Championship. The Tigers had now conceded 13 penalties in 2016-17; more than any other team in a Premier League season. With this being their final away game of 2016-17, City had the worst away record in the Premier League in this season (six points, won one). Hull City manager Marco Silva said: "Today we came here to play one final and we started in a bad way. It gave Palace what they wanted for the match. They knew what was in it for them. When the club came to me, we knew we were taking on a big risk. But we had one target, to stay in the Premier League. We did our best to improve the boys in the team and that was our job."
